-commercializing patriotism-

I created this image first as a standalone work with no copy. Now I've adjusted it--with a clearer message--as a "speculation ad" for Adbusters. I don't often let my politics "out"--I'm fairly moderate in most issues. Anyway, as figured here, the image is a response to the "America: Open for Business" signs--the sense that spending/consumption equals love of country. The strips are the UPC for 3704, which geeks like me know spells "hole" on their calculators. The bottom copy is a bit small in this image; it reads: "Want to be patriotic? There are better ways than just buying more stuff. Learn more at www.adbusters.org."
