A lot has been happening over at bannerart.org:
The BAC is currently featured in mediaHEXA's Phase 18 exhibition until February 13, 2003.
We are finishing up an exhibition at the Edith-Russ Site for Media Art in Oldenburg, Germany. The BAC was included in the show "Total Uberzogen," which finishes up on February 9, 2003.
Fatima Lasay included banner art as a portion of a class on digital media at the University of the Philippines's College of Fine Arts. The class responded with a large number of entries, some general and some focused on human right's violations. There is, I think, tremendous pedogical value in the practice of banner art, which forces students of new media to hone their Direcotr and image editing skills within strictly defined forms. All good poets start by mastering scrict forms; why shouldn't all digital artists?
Since its redesign, the Banner Art Collective has added 81 works. We want to thank the following artists for their recent contributions: Garrett Lynch, Michael Sellam, Frederique Santune, Dante Smirnoff, michael szpakowski, Fatima Lasay, KRN, Stuffit, david hayden schwarz, Richard Arnold, pope, Antoine Schmitt, Nick Barker, Christophe Bruno, Christina McPhee, Ji Bet, Zebra3, CartonMan, yoke and zoom, Tess, John Enrico I. Mortel, Camilla Tabagan, paulo r. vinluan, lala, monica laurel delgado, Jeffrey Acdal, Maysa Arabit, Gem Alexandria Dy Tuano, leonardo d. pabroquez jr., carlito c. amalla, Hasmyn T. Homeres, winchell d. saludares, Tadej VOBOVNIK, Mary Grace M. Tenorio, eleanor c. alfante, Cathy Lasam, hansel ivan cruz, Melissa Garcia, Abigael Frias, Kat Atendido, Bernice de Leon, kathrina atendido, genesis jinggoy l. buensuceso, Aisa C. Clemente, jimi diga, manuel abrera, Terence Jordan Ileto, ro27 *, Debbie Singson, Julia Arenas, and jimpunk.
We also want to thank those that have hosted banner art on their websites. Banner art succeeds best when viewed in the margins, and these hosts have made that possible. Many bloggers have placed banner art on their pages, most notably Free Space Comix (the blog of Brian Kim Stefans), squish (the blog of Katherine Parrish), and demokratica: the werglog (Gabriel Pickard). Two literary magazines have added banner art to their pages: gotcannedgoods?com and hellorhighwater.org. We welcome any new hosts who would like to host banner art to download our randomizer scripts to place banners on your pages.
We are currently trying to procure funding to distribute banner art in actual advertising space on commercial sites—as sort of banner art happenings. We are applying for grant aid, but will also accept individual donations through Paypal.
Thanks to everyone who has offered continued support of the project. It truly is a collective effort that could not happen without you.
